Longevity & Your Diet
Imagine improving your health and mental clarity with a simple change to the timing of your meals. That’s what I’ve been focusing on lately with a program that mimics fasting and helps you get into the practice of intermittent fasting.
Intermittent fasting, specifically a 12-14 hour fast between dinner and breakfast, can significantly enhance your well-being. I highly recommend the ProLon 5-Day Fasting Mimicking Diet, developed by Dr. Valter Longo, head of the Longevity Institute at USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and author of "The Longevity Diet" – reading I highly recommend for anyone concerned with proactive health and wellness.
There have been many studies published about the benefits of intermittent fasting, including improved glucose regulation, increased resistance to stress, and enhanced brain function. That’s because intermittent fasting helps reset your body's natural processes and is linked to improved metabolic features and brain function. Think of your body like a garbage disposal—if you run it all the time you’re going to dull the blades. Giving it a rest helps reset your system and gets you back to homeostasis, promoting better overall health.
Fascinated, I researched more about how this program worked, and discovered that the ProLon program focuses on down-regulating key nutrient-sensing pathways: IGF-1, mTOR, and PKA. These 3 pathways regulate our cells’ growth cycles and stress-resistant “fasting” state, which supports cellular rejuvenation and longevity.
But how does cellular rejuvenation translate to the lived experience? Well, I recently completed the ProLon 5-Day Fasting Mimicking Diet and experienced some of the best sleep I've had in years. I've noticed significant improvements in my focus and energy levels. If you’re feeling sluggish and need a body reset, I couldn’t recommend this program more.
