Ted Lasso - I’m hooked!

I have a confession to make...

This weekend, I did something completely off track from my usual health and wellness endeavors, I binged my very first TV show.

That’s right. I spent an entire weekend glued to the screen, savoring every episode of Ted Lasso. And let me tell you, I regret nothing.

Ted Lasso, for those unfamiliar (though at this point, I’m assuming only hermits and people who don’t know what Wi-Fi is), is a show about football. No, not the American kind—the real football. The one where the players actually use their feet. But honestly, Ted Lasso is so much more than just football. It’s about life, love, loss, hope, humor, and somehow, biscuits with the boss.

After just the first five episodes, I was hooked.

I’d fallen in love with Ted Lasso himself, played by the delightful Jason Sudeikis. I mean, this guy is basically the human version of a warm hug with a mustache! He's got this infectious optimism and charm that makes him the most likable character I’ve seen on TV in the last 20 years, hands down. Every time he dropped one of his quirky wisdom bombs, it felt like my heart grew three sizes. He’s the kind of character you want to invite over for dinner, but then you remember he’s fictional and feel a little sad inside.

But what really got me was the writing. Ted Lasso serves up powerful life lessons with all the grace and finesse of a free kick. Whether it’s tackling issues like mental health, teamwork, or personal growth, the show delivers its messages in such an uplifting way that you can’t help but feel good after every episode. I mean, I was smiling like a fool, feeling like I’d just had a therapy session wrapped in football banter.

The show's tone is just right, lighthearted, yet profound. It’s the perfect blend of humor and heart. Sure, there’s football, but you don’t have to know anything about the sport to enjoy it. (Trust me, my football knowledge extends to "That’s the one where they don’t wear helmets, right?") What’s really at play here is the team spirit, and not just on the pitch, but in life. It’s about finding your team-your people-who lift you up, make you laugh, and help you through the rough patches.

So, consider this a bit of a detour from my usual wellness content. But then again, maybe it’s not. Because if there’s anything Ted Lasso teaches us, it’s that taking time to laugh, to connect, and to find joy in the small things is just as important as taking care of our bodies. In fact, it might be one of the best forms of self-care.

So, if you haven’t already binged Ted Lasso, do yourself a favor and watch it. It’s good for the soul and I promise, it’ll make you smile (and maybe crave biscuits).

Now, back to my regularly scheduled wellness hacks... but first, maybe just one more episode?
