Beware: Household Toxins

I’ve mentioned in one of my recent posts that I have embraced EBOO (extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation) as a method to detoxify from environmental (and other) toxins from the inside out. This proactive approach complements my efforts to create a toxin-free home environment.

Over the years, I've taken significant steps to reduce the presence of harmful chemicals in my home, inspired by an increasing awareness of the 'chemical smell' that so often accompanies new products from big box stores. This journey began when I noticed that certain smells from cleaning products and new furnishings were causing a general sense of unease. After researching and experiencing firsthand the impact of these chemicals, I committed to a healthier living environment.

One major change I made was overhauling my cleaning supply cabinet. The first step was placing all the cleaning supplies outside instead of under my cabinets. I swapped out conventional cleaners with pervasive chemical odors for natural alternatives that are just as effective but much kinder to our bodies and the environment.

For example, I now use vinegar and baking soda for cleaning surfaces and essential oils for a pleasant scent. I've also become more selective about the furnishings and decor I bring into my home, opting for items made with natural materials like wood, bamboo, and organic fabrics that don’t emit harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This has significantly improved the indoor air quality and created a healthier living space.

Recent research, like that discussed in The Guardian, underscores the importance of this shift. It reveals how pervasive 'forever chemicals' are in everyday products and their potential link to health issues. By choosing products carefully and staying informed, we can significantly reduce our exposure to these harmful substances (check the link I included to learn more about forever chemicals, and how to remove them from your home).

Making these changes hasn't just cleared the air at home; it's also led to noticeable improvements in my overall well-being.
