Antioxidants & Your Health
One aspect of nutrition that's always fascinated me is the role of antioxidants in promoting health. ๐ These powerful substances, found in various fruits, vegetables, and other foods, help neutralize free radicals in our bodies, reducing oxidative stress and preventing cell damage.
Incorporating antioxidant-rich foods into your diet can have numerous health benefits, including enhanced immune function, better skin health, and even a reduced risk of chronic diseases. ๐ฅฆ๐
A diet rich in antioxidants is not just a health choice; it's a lifestyle choice for long-term well-being.
Here are some easy tips I've found to keep antioxidants high in my diet:
1๏ธโฃ Go plant-based 75% or more for every meal. Include vegetables rich in antioxidants like broccoli, spinach, squash, kale, asparagus, or sweet potato. For fruits, you can't go wrong with raspberries, blueberries, pomegranates, or blackberries.
2๏ธโฃ Carry dried fruit and vegetables in your car or bag. Dried figs and plums have very high amounts of antioxidants. Keep in mind that you'll want to avoid dried fruits that have added processed sugars, however!
3๏ธโฃ Keep stashes of nuts around the high-traffic areas of your house or office โ an excellent snack to keep cravings at bay with significant amounts of protein AND antioxidants. Pecans actually rank the highest among common tree nuts in terms of total antioxidants.
